Female representation updated

Thank you for replying and leaving comments. It is interesting to see your viewpoints and the adresses will come in useful as for my research I will need to write to some female politicians in America.

If there are any women who have any opinions I would appreciate it greatly if you would leave some comments. Even if it doesn't interest you at all!!!!

Looking at the 2004 election results I saw that in Georgia state one of you three senators is a woman called Denise Majette. However looking at the exit polls published on cnn.com it was clear to see she was getting much less votes than her male counterparts. She did score highly among the African American vote as she herself was black.

In the house of representatives Goergia state has 1 women representative out of 13!! This is a decrease as there was previously 2 women last time.

Health Policy In The US

Hello, my name is Ross and I'm a 17 year old pupil at Musselburgh Grammar School. I'm doing a project on the health policy in the UK and the USA. I have found out the following policies from each of your presidential candidates. Could you please leave your comments or any additions to the policies I already have.

John Kerry (Democrats) : Proposes to open up the existing healthcare programme for government employees to all adults. Giving money to state govermment to reduce the number of uninsured children.

George W. Bush (Republicans) : Proposes tax breaks for high earners who take out health insurance to cut numbers of people without insurance.

female representation in the us

hi people my name is laura and i am a pupil at musselburgh grammar school. i am 17 years old.
i am doin a dissertation on female representation (comparing the UK with the US) and i would appreciate your help!!!!

1. ARE THERE ANY FEMALE POLTICIANS IN YOUR AREA????????

if you know of any...... names??? maybe it would b possible to write to them?

2. WHAT IS THE GENERAL ATTITUDES TO POLITICS IN YOUR AREA????????

are women turned off by politics or interested.......??
are any girls at your high school interested in politics???

3. DO YOU THINK AMERICAN POLITICAL PARTIES DO ENOUGH TO ENCOURAGE HIGHER FEMALE REPRESENTATION????????

in 2001 for the first time in American history a majority of states (27) had at least 1 female representative. HOWEVER....I believe this is still very under-representative of the usa as a whole....agree???

the scottish parliament is 39.5% female (still less than half but....)
and in wales it is exactly 50% men 50% women ( wales is another country in the UK which is attached to england)
however there is still lower female representation in the UK parliament (parliament is government)
(just so u know the UK is made up of 4 countries- scotland, england, wales and northern ireland. Each country has it's own governments which have powers to do certain things. the 1st minister of scotland is Jack McConnel. there is also a UK government run by Prime Minister Tony Blair.)
WOULD ANYONE BE WILLING TO CONDUCT A SURVEY ON MY BEHALF?????????
that's all for now...
i will update the blog regularly for more info

GUNS

Hiya, my names Charlene im 17 and am doing a dissertation on gun laws and gun crime in the US. Im interested to hear opinions of young people in America.

1. What are your thoughts on the assault weapon ban?
2. What do you think of the NRA?
3. Do you think that politicians are fair when saying rap music influences gun crime?
4. Do you know anyone that owns a gun or have one yourself?
5. Would you like your government to make tougher laws for all of America to prevent guns getting into dangerous hands?

I think alot of people (especially those in cities) own guns for the status and power that goes with it. Thats definately why people in the UK have guns. Obviously I realise that some people feel they need one for protection for themselves and of their family. However you hear in the news far more stories of innocent people being attacked with guns, than stories of people shooting others in self-defence.

Please leave any comments you have on my statement and answers to the questions. Whether you agree or disagree I'd like to read your opinions.

If anyone would be interested in helping me to gather public opinions about guns in the US id be really grateful. Download political_attitude_survey.doc
